Meet the Farmer – Joel Salatin Part 2

By Alain Leave a Comment

This episode of Meet the Farmer, featuring Joel Salatin (of Polyface Farms), is an interesting one. Joel talks about how they raise chickens and their “egg mobile.” If you want real free range chickens, this is the way to raise them.

In addition to being a much healthier way to raise chickens, I’m sure that Joel Salatin’s method is also much cheaper. The chickens are certainly going to have a healthier diet that is probably much closer to the diet they would have had in the wild.

Once we have some property, this is definitely a method we would like to try. I don’t get the impression that chickens are particularly difficult to raise, so we shouldn’t have too many problems with it. Build their cage and drag it ten feet in a field once a day, while making sure they have an adequate supply of water.

Apparently the result is much healthier chickens, little if any disease and healthier eggs. Sounds to me like this is the best way to raise chickens!
